About Happy Little Signers
Our friendly and relaxed Baby and Toddler classes teach BSL-based baby signing through a combination of new and well-loved nursery rhymes, action songs and multi-sensory play.
The benefits of signing with your child are huge and far reaching. By learning just a couple of simple signs, your child is empowered to communicate their basic wants and needs, add a few more and they can express to you their interests and emotions - all before they can talk! This enhanced communication has been shown to have a profound impact on a child’s mental well-being, can strengthen the parent-child bond and has even been found to continue to have benefits on language, communication and IQ at age 8!
Each week in class has a new theme that is relevant to your baby or toddler's world. As part of the theme, every class is held around a rich sensory landscape with loads to explore to stimulate all the senses. Children are free to explore the landscape from the minute they arrive, all the way through the class and during free-play time at the end. There are also additional props and sensory resources brought out throughout the class to keep things exciting!
Every class has a dedicated social and free-play time. This is the perfect opportunity for you to build connections with other parents and carers while your child plays with the toys provided and take their first steps towards building their own connections with their peers.
Classes are 1 hour long, consisting of 30-40 minutes of structured singing, signing and sensory activities, followed by social and free-play time.
Our classes are 100% baby and toddler friendly. Feel free to feed your baby or duck out to change a nappy. If your baby sleeps through class, we really don't mind. Who doesn't love a sleeping baby! You'll still be able to join in and learn the signs.
Toddler classes are structured a bit differently to the baby classes to account for fidgety bums and an inability to sit still! Much louder and more interactive, but still using familiar songs and activities to learn our signs
Our classes are run by our friendly early years communication expert, Jen.
'I started signing with my little girl Felicity when she was only two weeks old. I could quickly see how much it strengthened our bond and I was totally hooked when she made her first sign "milk" at just eight weeks old! As a family, we continued to use baby signing every day and our ability to communicate with our baby grew and grew. As she started to learn more signs, we could suddenly understand Felicity's wants and desires, and know what she was noticing about the world around her. By the time she was a year old, she could sign over 150 words - all before she could speak. I set up Happy Little Signers so I could share the amazing world of baby signing with other parents and let them experience the magic of early communication for themselves!'.
Happy Little Signers classes have been awarded the highest accreditation (3 gold kites) by the Institute of Children's Activity Providers, taking in to account our class design, policies and customer experience. We were voted as one of the Top Ten Children's Activities of 2023 in Mid and East Cheshire by The Guardian newspaper and multi-nominated for the WhatsOn4Kids Children's Activity Awards. Jen has also been selected as a finalist for The Family Network's Business Mum of 2024, she'll find out later this year if she is successful!
